We love crafting with food. Today we are using food to make jewelry. You can dye it in a rainbow of colors and use all different shapes of pasta too. This easy DIY recipe is a fun and easy after school project for kids of all ages. Follow these clever mess free instructions to die pasta and you’ll have a buckets of beads to create bracelets, necklaces and more!
- Buy a few different shapes of tube pasta.
- Toss pasta in a zip lock bag with one color dye and hand sanitizer. You can use vegetable dye if prefer it. Repeat for as many colors as you want. It can be fun to use different shape pasta in the same bag to have multiple options in the same color.
- Shake that bag!!
- Open bag onto a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.
- Lay out over night to dry.
- Have kids help you put the pasta into fun containers divided up by color and shape.
- Let kids thread the pasta beads onto pipe cleaners, twine, elastic or plastic beading thread to make bracelets and necklaces!
TIP: Mix up the same shape pasta into 2 different colors for a more fun variety presentation, as pictured above.
This activity is fantastic for developing fine motor skills and uses math for counting and pattern formation.
