Paper Lantern Owls

Paper lanterns don’t have to be plain. Turn an ordinary paper lantern into a flying owl with just some string and construction paper.

Paper Lantern Owls

  1. Cut 2 large ovals out of brown construction paper to create wings. Using a yellow marker, draw feathers on the ovals.
  2. Next, cut out two circles for the eyes and a rectangle with two pointed edges for the ears. (See photo below.) Then, cut a small triangle from a piece of orange construction paper for the beak.
  3. Draw the owl’s eyes onto the two brown circles.
  4. Glue the beak and eyes onto the rectangle with two points. Now the owl’s “face” should be one piece.
  5. Attach the owl’s “face” to the string that will be used to hang your paper lantern.
  6. Then attach the owl’s wings to the sides of the paper lantern.
  7. Hang your owl and watch it fly!
