Paper lanterns don’t have to be plain. Turn an ordinary paper lantern into a flying owl with just some string and construction paper.
Paper Lantern Owls
- Cut 2 large ovals out of brown construction paper to create wings. Using a yellow marker, draw feathers on the ovals.
- Next, cut out two circles for the eyes and a rectangle with two pointed edges for the ears. (See photo below.) Then, cut a small triangle from a piece of orange construction paper for the beak.
- Draw the owl’s eyes onto the two brown circles.
- Glue the beak and eyes onto the rectangle with two points. Now the owl’s “face” should be one piece.
- Attach the owl’s “face” to the string that will be used to hang your paper lantern.
- Then attach the owl’s wings to the sides of the paper lantern.
- Hang your owl and watch it fly!
