Homemade Applesauce in 3 Easy Steps

Applesauce in 3 steps

As apples start to come into season, I am reminded how I grew up learning to make applesauce with my mom. Every Fall we would pick apples from the tree in our backyard and if it was a good harvest, we would have baskets upon baskets of apples. You can only eat so many raw apples, so ultimately, we would cook the rest into delicious applesauce. My favorite part in making applesauce was at the end, when I got to mash them up! Try making applesauce with your kids!

Kids can:

  • Eat the apple peels.
  • Peek through the holes after your core the apples.
  • Add the chopped apples, water, sugar, and cinnamon to the saucepan before turning on the stove.
  • Once cooled, mash the cooked apples!

The best apples to use for applesauce are the sweeter and softer varieties such as: Fuji, Pink Lady, Red delicious, Gala, and Golden Delicious.
