FourthofJulySparklers

Fourth of July is just around the corner! With the kids out of school and summer in full swing, you may be in the need of some last-minute, quick and easy ideas to make your Fourth of July sparkle.

These Fourth of July Sparklers are an extremely easy food craft that your children will love.

Ingredients:

  • 1 watermelon
  • Blueberries

Cooking Tools:

  • Wooden Skewers
  • Star cookie cutters
  • Decorative items such as ribbon, mason jars, etc.

Directions:

  1. SlicingWatermelonCut the watermelon into long slices with a medium thickness. Cutting the watermelon this way will allow you to cut as many star shapes as possible.
  2. Once the watermelon is cut, start using your star cookie cutter. Place the cookie cutter into the watermelon.
  3. Pull the excess fruit on the outside of the cookie cutter away and place into a bowl.
  4. Press your star-shaped watermelon out of the cookie cutter and set aside.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until you have as many stars as desired.
  6. Once you’ve finished creating stars, take one of your wooden skewers and place 3-4 blueberries on top of the skewer. Then, place one of the stars on top of the blueberries to complete the skewer. Set this skewer aside, and repeat this step until you have as many sparkling skewers as you’d like. (Customize your sparkling skewers however you’d like to during this step! You can place only the watermelon stars on the skewers or add bananas and other fruits to the skewers as well.)
  7. After you’ve decorated all of your skewers with fruit, it’s time to get creative with the presentation.
    • You can simply lay the skewers down on a plate and tie a ribbon around the skewer if you’re short on supplies.
    • Another option is to cover a small piece of styrofoam with tissue paper, place it into a mason jar and then stick your skewers into the styrofoam. Finish it off with decorative ribbon on each of the skewers.

Happy Fourth of July!
